The charities we support

Christian Aid http://www.christianaid.org.uk/ helps the world’s poorest people to help themselves and Libby Goldsack is our church member on the Newbury Christian Aid Committee http://www.newbury-christianaid.org.uk. The Bible Society http://www.biblesociety.org.uk/ makes the Bible available to all the world, especially the very poor, and translates it into hundreds of languages, and Ros Stuart is our rep. Action Through Enterprise http://ateghana.org supports education in Ghana and was set up by a Shaw teacher. Link to Hope http://linktohope.co.uk is the charity through which we send shoe-boxes of Christmas gifts and basic commodities to impoverished families in Eastern Europe. Mary Rye is our rep. The Leprosy Mission http://www.leprosymission.org.uk provides medical, social and economic support to leprosy sufferers. Libby is a Leprosy Mission trader and we collect stamps and postcards for them. Loose Ends http://www.looseendsnewbury.org supports homeless people in Newbury and Julie Cobbett volunteers there. COINS stands for Christian Outreach in Newbury Schools http://coinsnewbury.org and Marion and Barbara run schools clubs. West Berkshire Women’s Aid supports local women and children fleeing domestic violence, and we collect toiletries for them. The West Berks Food Bank http://westberks.foodbank.org.uk supplies dry food to local people (including families) in need, and to Loose Ends.

We support these charities by raising money and awareness, by prayer and practical support. We usually act as catalysts rather than making direct donations from church funds. We join in local events for several of the charities and encourage volunteers. We also have a Charities Bank at the back of church where we collect goods for local causes. (See separate page).
