Heritage Open Days and Exhibition 9th and 10th September

Heritage Open Days and Exhibition - free entry with refreshments available

Saturday 9th September  2pm-5pm and Sunday 10th September 12pm-4pm

Victorian themed Anniversary Service with Andrew Proud, Bishop of Reading on Sunday 10th September 10am

As part of our 175th anniversary celebrations, St. Mary's will be part of the annual national 'Heritage Open Days' weekend when historic buildings are open to the public. The church will be open to all with an exhibition of artefacts, photographs, documents and models showing buildings and people through the years in our parish.  Our aim is to listen to, hear and tell the stories of those who have lived and loved in our village over the centuries - how their lives are interwoven with our national history and how our national history affected their lives.

Although the occasion of our celebration is the 175th anniversary of the consecration of the 'new' church building in 1842, we want to celebrate a thousand years or more of a Christian presence in our community of Shaw and Donnington.

Come and find out the answers to questions like these:

Have you heard the one about the ostler who sold his wife to a duke for half a crown?

What did the Rector do after his holidays on the Isle of Wight?

How did the residents of Donnington Grove make themselves comfortable at church?

Why not contribute to our living history and provide photographs with your memories and stories of days gone by for a 'Reministory' of our parish?  Please contact the church office on 01635 40450 or email eventsshawchurch@gmail.com.

The National Heritage Weekend is an opportunity for all of us to think about what the past has given us:  What is our heritage?  What do we value, appreciate and enjoy from our heritage?  What would we like to change or do differently?

We look forward to welcoming you to this lovely historic building.
