175th Anniversary

2017 marks the 175th anniversary of the completion and consecration of the present St. Mary's Church building and we have been celebrating with special events throughout the year.  We have been delighted to welcome many hundreds of people from the parish and wider community to the Coffee Morning, the Three Rivers Choir Concert, the Heritage Exhibition, the Anniversary Celebration Service, the Victorian Lunch Club Meal, the Flower Festival Weekend, the Harvest Service and Lunch and the Come and Sing day.   Photographs from the events will be on the gallery tab of this website.

The PCC and congregation of St Mary's are grateful to everyone who contributed to make the Anniversary events so successful.  There are too many to mention individually here but to all FUNDRAISERS, DONORS, ORGANISERS, ADMINISTRATORS, DESIGNERS, PUBLICITY SEEKERS, LEAFLET DELIVERERS, CAKE MAKERS, TEA SERVERS, STALL HOLDERS, SINGERS, MUSICIANS, HISTORICAL RESEARCHERS, CONSTRUCTORS, EXHIBITION CURATORS, AUDIO-VISUAL ENGINEERS, PROGRAMME PRINTERS, MODEL MAKERS, BANNER MAKERS, FLOWER ARRANGERS, EVENT STEWARDS, COOKS, CLEANERS, PRAYER SUPPORTERS, SETTING UPPERS AND TAKING DOWNERS  and to everyone who came to take part in and support the events we say a huge

                                                  THANK YOU!

The focus of the year was celebration and community involvement.  Any surplus income from the events after expenses have been paid will be allocated to the Chancel Roof Repair fund.

The Church building is a tangible reminder of the many generations of parishioners who have gone before us, providing us through their faith, vision and generosity with such a beautiful legacy.  Over the past 175 years thousands of parishioners have worshipped here.  Thousands more have been baptised, married and mourned in this building and even more have enjoyed it at concerts and special events.  If you have never been inside and would like to see it please join us for one of our regular services or activities or contact the church office during working hours.

Whether you value St. Mary's, Shaw-cum-Donnington as a place of worship, a focus for special family events, a venue for concerts and celebrations or simply as a beautiful and historic building that is part of your local history, please support the roof appeal and help make sure that the building continues to be available to all for at least another 175 years. You can donate at www.thegoodexchange.com using project number 11675 (Chancel Roof Repair).

The Anniversary celebrations will conclude with a concert by The Cromwell Singers on 25th November in support of Christian Aid.
